Orwell, OH - Plant Manager

Primary Objective: Direct and manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for production, facility engineering and maintenance, quality and inventory control.

Responsibilities:

1. Schedule plant production and evaluate capacity limitations; monitors order file to manage direct labor.
2. Monitor quality of finished product to ensure customer satisfaction.
3. Schedule production to maximize material flow and cost efficiency.
4. Evaluate all orders, keeping a good balance of product types and mix of species so as to use all assets of the plant profitability.
5. Work with account representatives to recommend price changes as needed to ensure profitability; review and approve new pricing proposals.
6. Walk through areas in the plant regularly, observing product quality, employee morale, workplace safety.
7. Continuously evaluate manufacturing processing methods and new technologies.
8. Ensure that Standard Work and Hour by Hour charts are maintained and followed.
9. Make effective use of appropriate Management Information Systems; recommends change or elimination as needed; simplify.
10. Lead a continuous improvement process.
11. Recommend equipment requirements, selections, and plant layouts; looks for new techniques, equipment, products, and improvement methods.
12. Develop supervisors’ skills, talents, and strengths so departments function to meet plant’s goals and profit margins.
13. Review financial statements and reports with a full understanding of the results; take action to improve.
14. Understand Company policies, goals, and mission to ensure understanding and compliance by employees.
15. Oversee the supervision of all plant employees, ensuring their training and safety.
16. Provide an environment of excellence, pride, enjoyment, professionalism, and trust for all employees.
17. Develop supervisors’ skills, talents, and strengths so departments function to meet plant’s goals and profit margins.
18. Represent the Company in a professional manner in the industry and community at all times, creating an image of excellence.


Knowledge and Skills Required:

1. Four year related degree
2. Seven plus years of related work experience, including responsibility for safety, quality and bottom line results.
3. Excellent communication skills, including listening, written, and verbal skills
4. Professional and ethical leadership and management skills including flexibility, decision making, vision, creativity, and team-building
5. Experience with lean manufacturing and short lead times
6. Forest products or wood products manufacturing background a plus
7. Accounting experience; excellent math skills
8. PC skills including spreadsheets, word-processing, and e-mail
